CHOOSE A RESOURCE
FACILITATOR GUIDE

Confidently prepare, structure and deliver effective CPD.

Everything you need to confidently prepare, structure and deliver an effective CPD session, with three delivery options to suit your school's time and context.

01

What is it?

The Facilitator Guide provides a clear, step-by-step structure for delivering the CPD session. It helps the facilitator understand the purpose of each part of the session, the key messages to emphasise and the activities or discussion points that support staff learning.

Each guide is available in three delivery formats, so leaders can choose the version that best fits their school's context and available time. The guide is designed to reduce preparation time while giving leaders the confidence to deliver high-quality professional development.

It works alongside the presentation and other resources to create a complete CPD experience.

02

Three delivery options

60 MINUTES

Staff Meeting

A focused version designed for a regular staff meeting, prioritising the essential learning, discussion and practical takeaways.

2.5 HOURS

Half-Day INSET

The most comprehensive version, allowing greater depth, extended practice, discussion, reflection and planning for implementation.

03

How does it help?

01

Save preparation time

Save preparation time with a clear structure and guidance for delivering the session.

02

Support consistency

Support consistent CPD delivery so staff receive the same key messages and learning experience across the school.

03

Keep learning focused

Keep discussion and activities focused on the intended learning rather than simply working through slides.

04

Connect learning to practice

Help facilitators make clear links between the professional learning and what it should look like in classroom practice.

05

Support implementation

Provide a strong starting point for follow-up implementation using the resources that continue beyond the CPD session.

04

Part of the Complete CPD Package

The Facilitator Guide works most closely with the Presentation and Staff Handout during the CPD session. The three delivery versions give leaders flexibility to choose a 60-minute Staff Meeting, 90-minute Twilight or 2.5-hour Half-Day INSET format without changing the core CPD topic.

Following delivery, the CPD Snapshot, Individual Implementation and Leadership Roadmap help staff and leaders revisit the learning, apply it in practice and support whole-school implementation.

PRESENTATION

Ready-to-use professional development, from evidence to practical application.

A ready-to-use presentation that takes staff through the key evidence, ideas and practical application.

01

What is it?

The Presentation provides the visual structure for the CPD session and guides staff through the core learning. It brings together key concepts, evidence, examples, discussion and practical application in a clear sequence.

The slides are designed to support professional discussion rather than simply present information to staff. They help create a consistent experience when the same CPD is delivered by different leaders or at different points in the year.

The presentation is designed to work alongside the facilitator guidance and wider implementation resources.

02

How does it help?

01

Save preparation time

Reduce the time leaders need to spend creating high-quality CPD presentations from scratch.

02

Create a clear learning journey

Give staff a clear and consistent learning journey through the key ideas and evidence.

03

Connect ideas to practice

Make teaching and learning principles easier to understand through examples and practical application.

04

Support discussion and reflection

Support discussion and reflection so staff consider how the learning connects to their own classroom practice.

05

Create a shared reference point

Create a shared reference point that can be revisited when the strategy is implemented and embedded across school.

STAFF HANDOUT

A practical reference that helps staff capture, revisit and apply the key learning from the CPD session.

A concise, practical resource that keeps the most important messages, strategies and actions from the session accessible for staff.

01

What is it?

The Staff Handout gives teachers a concise, practical record of the key learning from the CPD session. It focuses attention on the most important messages, strategies and actions rather than requiring staff to remember everything from the presentation.

The handout can be used during the session to support reflection and discussion, and afterwards as a reference point when applying the learning. It helps create a shared language across staff and provides something teachers can return to when they need a reminder of the agreed approach.

This makes the learning more likely to move from a one-off CPD session into everyday practice.

02

How does it help?

01

Provide a concise reference

Give staff a concise reference they can return to after the CPD session.

02

Focus on what matters

Help teachers focus on the most important messages and practical actions rather than trying to retain every detail.

03

Create shared language

Create shared language and expectations around the approach across the school.

04

Support reflection

Support reflection as staff consider how the learning applies to their own classroom and pupils.

05

Support implementation

Provide an accessible reminder that can be used alongside implementation and follow-up activities.

CPD SNAPSHOT

A concise reference that keeps the key learning visible and accessible after CPD.

A practical summary that helps staff revisit the essential messages, strategies and actions from the session.

01

What is it?

The CPD Snapshot provides staff with a concise summary of the key learning from the professional development session. It captures the most important messages, principles and practical strategies in a format that is quick to revisit.

Rather than requiring staff to return to the full presentation or remember everything covered during the session, the snapshot provides an accessible reminder of what matters most.

It can be used after the session to reinforce learning, support implementation conversations and provide a shared reference point as the approach becomes embedded across the school.

02

How does it help?

01

Keep key learning visible

Give staff a concise reminder of the most important messages and ideas from the CPD session.

02

Make learning easy to revisit

Provide a quick reference that staff can return to without needing to revisit the full presentation.

03

Reinforce practical strategies

LEADERSHIP ROADMAP

A practical pathway for leaders to move from professional learning to sustained whole-school implementation.

A structured implementation resource that helps leaders plan, monitor and sustain the impact of CPD across the school.

01

What is it?

The Leadership Roadmap provides leaders with a clear pathway for supporting the implementation of the learning from a CPD session across the school. It helps translate professional development into a structured improvement process rather than leaving implementation to chance.

The roadmap supports leaders to identify priorities, consider what successful implementation should look like, plan appropriate follow-up and monitor how the learning is being embedded in classroom practice.

It provides a shared leadership reference that can be revisited throughout the implementation process, helping leaders maintain momentum and evaluate the impact of the professional learning.

02

How does it help?

01

Plan implementation

Help leaders move from the CPD session to a clear plan for applying and embedding the learning.

02

Clarify expectations

INDIVIDUAL IMPLEMENTATION

Turn professional learning into specific, sustainable changes in classroom practice.

A practical implementation guide that helps teachers apply the learning deliberately in their own classroom.

01

What is it?

Individual Implementation helps teachers translate the CPD learning into clear actions within their own classroom. It focuses attention on what the strategy should look like in practice and supports staff to identify manageable changes they can make.

The resource helps teachers move from understanding an idea to deliberately applying it with their pupils. It can also support reflection, discussion and follow-up as teachers consider what is working and what may need adapting.

This makes implementation a practical process that develops over time rather than an expectation to change everything at once.

02

How does it help?

01

Turn learning into action

Translate professional learning into clear and manageable classroom actions.

02

Support deliberate application

Help teachers focus on deliberate application rather than simply knowing about the strategy.

03

Encourage reflection
